Freedom Coaching: Conscious Nurturing for Your Emotional Health
In the last 25 years, I have coached thousands of people around the world. The invitation is always to step into freedom in mind, body and spirit. While at the University of Santa Monica, in a spiritual psychology program, the students were asked to create their “own” coaching program. Since my personal work had been on healing trauma and abuse from my childhood, I decided to explore this area. So, I began to work on what would become Emotional Integration Coaching.
For many years I had extraordinary support from therapists and spiritual counselors to do my personal healing. I wanted to work with people to help them reclaim their power, find their voices and step into the greatness that they came to deliver. As the processes unfolded, I knew I wasn’t going to be a therapist, but it wasn’t until a colleague said, “you are a coach!” That resonated with me, but I still was not calling myself a coach. My work with people had no defined title.
When I decided to be a solo entrepreneur, I felt insecure, lost and a little confused. What was clear is that I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I joined a leadership program to expand my skills and business knowledge. When I entered the program, I was told that I would have a coach assigned to me. I wasn’t sure what that meant or even if I needed a coach. However, I am a great student, and I was committed to being fully engaged in the program. The coach assigned to me was a game changer. She was loving, smart and very experienced. She also was clear that she was in my life to hold me accountable to my goals.
Coaches work with motivated individuals who are looking to create roadmaps to reaching set goals. What I didn’t know is even though business was my focus, the work with the coach would give me clarity in every area of my life. After each session, my coach gave me homework and was clear that she was not going to waste her time if I wasn’t prepared for our next meeting. I remember being annoyed, upset and wanting to push back. Then, I would remember that I was paying for this support.
Let me be clear. I was often scared, felt clueless and overwhelmed. My coach would listen, clarify her understanding and then ask me to get moving. What I began to notice were powerful shifts. I thought differently. I had a new relationship with my gifts, my money and my focus became undeniable.
The entire process unlocked previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and ultimately my coaching and leadership style. It also assisted me in becoming clear about my passions and how I wanted to deliver them in the world. As I ended my training, I declared, “I am a Freedom Coach!”
Many people have asked what I do with my clients. So, I decided to share here. I don’t know if you have ever had a coach, but I wanted to remind you how powerful having the right coach, at the right time, in your life can shift how you function.
During my leadership training, it became clear to me that my zone of genius was supporting people to transform, heal old wounds and traumas, and to manifest fulfillment in their lives. I wouldn’t have called myself a coach, but I realized that coaching is what I have always done.
As my focus became clear, I realized that my work was centered around emotional health and well-being. Whether it was relationships, careers, financial goals or building a business, emotional health had to be a through-line.
My job was to assist my clients to identify the obstacles holding them back, support the disconnecting of unsupportive habits and then come up with strategies for creating joyful life experiences. I believe we are all unique imprints in the universe. Therefore, we all have gifts to share. What gets in the way is unhealed beliefs, experiences and traumas. Once those things are cleared, we can begin to thrive.
At first, I worked in the realm of spiritual communities. Then, I realized that people across the board need this kind of support. So, I began to coach leaders and small organizations, in what I call Advanced Awareness Clarity work. It includes emotional integration, but we really look at how they can become healthy leaders and create strong teams/organizations.
Anyone coming to me was clear that my work has spiritual components (not religious). I tell them that we are all spiritual-beings, and this human experience is the opportunity to learn how to shift challenge into opportunity.
Here is how all of my work expresses:
- The client’s intention goals are established and defined.
- We design a custom plan to create outcomes based on the findings of the initial session. The plan is customized to the client’s personality and objectives.
- We identify beliefs and patterns and where they live in the body. Then, we focus on disconnecting old energetics, patterns, behaviors and beliefs. That now longer serve.
- My job is to continue to inspire and motivate the client on their journey of self-discovery and growth.
- I also nurture client accountability to discover and implement the desired result. That occurs through assignments designed to move them forward.
Let me re-iterate here, I am not a therapist. Therapists are:
- Mental health professionals treating mood and anxiety disorders, and addictive behaviors
- Adhering to prescribed legal codes of ethics created in each state
- Educated and licensed. Some also are trained to prescribe drugs to maintain stability
Many people view working with a coach as a means of creating a bridge between current circumstances and the life they would like to lead. The following are some of the ways working with a freedom coach can support.
- Better life harmony in work and relationships
- Release of long-held fears and unhealthy experiences
- Identify and deconstruct familial patterns
- Enhanced creativity
- Greater financial security
- Stronger communication skills
- Stronger relationships personally and professionally
While people may report benefits after seeing a coach, there have also been studies that have shown that coaching can be beneficial in a number of areas:
- One study found that both individual and group coaching was helpful in reducing procrastination and improving goal attainment.1
- One review of studies found that health and wellness coaching showed promise for improving self-efficacy and self-empowerment.2
- A 2020 study published in Frontiers in Psychology found that coaching-based leadership interventions could be effective for enhancing well-being and improving functioning within organizations.3
Freedom coaching adds the components of mind/body connection and emotional healing modalities into the mix.
In 2016, I realized that my mission was bigger than just me. I wanted to leave a legacy of supporting humanity. In that moment, I decided I needed to train people to do my work in the world. So, I created Freedom Coach Training. Since that time, we have Freedom Coaches all over the nation supporting people to create lasting healing in their lives. In August of this year, I will begin a new class.
If you are a life coach, therapist, or spiritual counselor, I invite you to explore becoming a Freedom Coach and adding this work to your toolkit. Click on this link to receive a video series exploring my work in more detail.
