Are You In Hope or In Faith?

by Jun 1, 2013Emotional Healing, Personal Growth

Hope-vs-FaithI was thinking about hope and what it means to our lives. When I looked up the definition of hope, here is what came forward: The feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best; A person or thing in which expectations are centered; to look forward with desire and reasonable confidence.

The definition reminded me that hope can be attached to a feeling and therefore can be affected by emotion. “I hope things turn out okay.” “I hope that I will be understood.” “I hope my family will be okay.” It dawned on me that when I am hoping, I am looking into the future. There is a desire to be supported, but not an assuredness that everything will fall into place. Somehow there is a little kernel of doubt that things might not work out in a powerful way.

I think hope is good, but I also think it is a precursor to faith. When I think of hope, I see portals of possibility that can open and guide me to:

Health
Opportunity
Possibility
Expectancy

As I look at my life, I can remember many times where hope was the only thing that I could hold onto to maintain sanity. It was my “life raft” when I felt that I was drowning in a sea of pain and despair. It got me through “dark nights” of the soul and kept me from doing self-destructive things that did not support my health and well-being.

I would like to invite you to look at hope versus faith in your life. Which one gives you more peace of mind as you travel through life? Personally, I would rather be in a state of faith, which is a strong or unshakable belief in something without proof or evidence. When I am strongly rooted in this place I am unwavering in my trust that my life is on track; guided and fully supported. When I am bathed in the light of faith, I can relax and surrender my personal will to a higher power that is always conspiring for my greatness.

Take some time to move into meditation and ask for support in healing. Ask for guidance to move from hoping that something will happen to a deep and abiding trust that you are cared for in amazing ways.

Please affirm with me: Today, FAITH fills every fiber of my being. I see my future filled with grace, joy, peace and abundance. I expect goodness to fill my experience of living. I am unwavering in my surrender to a life of infinite possibilities.
