Jump Start a Spectacular Summer

by Inspiration

Can you believe it is already June? Time is moving fast. I love the summer. I am definitely a warm weather girl. Summer can bring a little stress for some. I have a lot of clients talking about wanting to look good at the beach and in the lighter weight summer clothes.   They are not so thrilled with their bodies. The diets begin, and plans for outdoor activities expand to get in shape. My single clients express concern over what to do and how to connect with others. I tell them summer is just a time of the year. What we make of it is our job. Here is the definition of summer:

  • The season between spring and autumn comprising in the northern hemisphere usually the months of June, July, and August or as reckoned astronomically extending from the June solstice to the September equinox.
  • The warmer half of the year.

Hello Summer!Neither one of these definitions should create stress. This is a time to play, explore, connect, and to build community. So, I have decided to share some ideas on what you might do in June to create a spectacular summer experience.

What if this summer could be the best one ever? What if you could create adventures and life connections which make you smile, dream, and create beyond your wildest imaginings? What if you could bring love to people known and unknown – just because you decided to shine the light of love in every moment?

I am including some ideas to get your summer juices flowing.

Father’s Day is June 16th.

What about connecting with your father or favorite father figure and doing something to celebrate their presence in your life. It could be a lunch or dinner, a hike, a bike ride or a day excursion without a plan. You could volunteer to make their favorite breakfast. You could start sending appreciation cards a week in advance culminating with a beautiful get-together experience. Here are some quotes to jump-start the journey to celebrating dads:

Dads are most ordinary men, turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers, and singers of song.

—Pam Brown

Son, brother, father, lover, friend. There is room in the heart for all the affections, as there is room in heaven for all the stars.

—Victor Hugo

Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad.
—Anne Geddes

The heart of a father is the masterpiece of nature.
—Antoine François Prévost, Manon Lescaut

The men in our lives deserve to be appreciated and honored. This is the perfect time to lift them up.

June is Pride Month

Pride MonthEvery year, during June, the LGBTQ community celebrates in several different ways. Across the globe, various events are held during this special month as a way of recognizing the influence LGBTQ people have had around the world.

For years, I rode in the pride parade in Denver, one of the biggest in the country. I felt so much joy as people yelled, blew horns, lifted flags, sang and danced in the parade and on the sidelines of the streets. I witnessed community at its best. Straight and LBGTQ people stood together as one. My heart opened and smiled through the entire experience.

For me, this is a time to raise the rainbow flags and honor our LGBTQ brothers and sisters. They continue to remind us to stand up for who we are; bring our best selves to any situation no matter the challenge, and to celebrate the magic of being alive. There are pride parades and celebrations around the country. Why not go out and join this fantastic community,

Juneteenth – June 19th

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.

Today, Juneteenth is enjoying a phenomenal growth rate within communities and organizations throughout the country. Institutions such as the Smithsonian, the Henry Ford Museum and others have begun sponsoring Juneteenth-centered activities. In recent years, several local and national Juneteenth organizations have arisen to promote and cultivate knowledge and appreciation of African American history and culture.

In Denver, where I live, the Five Points area celebrates with a mixture of history, politicians, and tradition. Lots of food trucks, music and entertainment, and merchandise for sale create a fabulous day of fun.

Not ready for a big event? This is the perfect time to gather a diversity of friends at a picnic, BBQ, or fun day to celebrate our African American sisters and brothers.

Summer Solstice – June 21st

The summer solstice is upon us: June 21st is the longest day of 2019 for anyone living north of the equator. Technically speaking, the summer solstice occurs when the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer or 23.5° north latitude.   For those of you that are curious, something powerful happens on this day at Stonehenge built 5000 years ago.

During the summer solstice, the sun rises just over the structure’s Heel Stone and hits the Altar Stone dead center.

It is a significant time, and at our home, we walk the spiral on our property with clear intentions. You might want to create a ritual for you, your family, and friends.

For those that just want to celebrate on your own and don’t need a holiday. Here are some thoughts about fun holidays in June. You get to create ways to observe any of the following.

  • Global Running Day
  • National Ice Cream Day
  • National Best Friends Day
  • National Donald Duck Day
  • National Loving Day
  • National Bourbon Day
  • National Go Fishing Day
  • International Yoga Day
  • National Take Your Dog to Work Day
  • National Kissing Day
  • Hug Holiday

Whatever you do….have fun, show up, share your love and give thanks daily for your amazing life.

Love and light,

Cynthia
