Resist Nothing

by Aug 1, 2013Intention, Personal Growth

Meditation to Release ResistanceSummer is often a time to rest and rejuvenate. It has been a really powerful time for me and I have used it to contemplate and reflect on many areas of my life. It is very interesting to me that when we slow down, the opportunity to witness our thoughts and behaviors amplifies.

One of the things that I noticed is that there are times when I will resist something or someone only to discover that the event or person is bringing me an amazing and unexpected gift. I paused and asked myself to explore the habit of resistance. It’s a habit I often see in my clients, so we work on dismantling the need to resist without reason. And then, here I am, watching the same behavior in myself. (We never really arrive, do we?!)

I meditate every day for a minimum of one hour, and during this time I ask myself some questions about resistance. This is what I heard in one of my meditations: “What if you stopped resisting anything?”

I wrote the question in my journal and as I did, more questions flooded in. I used the questions to support a shift and release resistance as a first instinct. I decided to pause any time resistance came in and “feel” how my body responded. No surprise, it was constricted. I have made a commitment to myself for the next few weeks to activate the internal “pause button” and declare the following: “I am choosing to release this resistance and look for the gifts that are flooding into my life.”

Meditate to Release Resistance

Below are the questions that I used in meditation. If resistance is a challenge for you, I invite you to use these questions in meditation or as a journaling experience.

  • What if I stopped resisting anything?
  • How many times a day do I move into resistance without any visible reason?
  • How is this resistance serving me?
  • What would my life be like if resistance didn’t lead my responses?

One of the things that I have discovered is that I am more at peace and my attention is on the expectancy of good. Our healing requires that we place our attention on what we want to grow. I sincerely hope that you will join me in this process and open to the glorious opportunities of your life.

Please affirm with me: Today, this moment, I am choosing to release this resistance and look for the gifts that are flooding into my life.
